China Unicom to start WCDMA testing period

Author: (An)Dante | Date: 2008-09-23 16:52 | Section: Networks | Source: Slashphone

Chinese Unicom is about to start testing standard WCDMA 3G instead of TD-SCDMA.

Currently 3G networks are available only in a very few places in China and these are usually TD-SCDMA networks from China Mobile. Installing WCDMA solutions have been impossible for a long time, but now it seems that the final barriers have been lifted. Thanks to China Unicom the use of worldwide standard WCDMA 3G will become available for the 11 million inhabitants of Baoding in Hebei district, 140 kilometers from Beijing. China Unicom currently has 129.46 million GSM and 43 million CDMA subscribers.
