Nice overview again. A few q's/observations: why do you consider safari to be better than Opera? This test http://wmpoweruser.com/?p=204 puts Opera ahead and at best I would put them on par, I see no obvious superiority in safari.
When you use the volume key to zoom in if you tap and hold on an icon/menu that item is selected. This works on my DXHF8 firmware, what is the current version on your Omnia? Maybe they changed that function.
Selecting BT is a 3-step process using the Today 2 plugin - select settings, unlock settings screen, tap BT icon to turn on bluetooth.
In opera, run your finger along the right side of the screen, up to zoom in or down to zoom out.

Hi efjay, this firmware topic is really curios! Some users who recently received their Omnia in Germany reported that they all have the firmware version i900XGHG5/BHHG6. And they bought their mobile on the open market in Germany, so that this version should be a real retail/final version (but unfortunately with all the scrolling and rotating features bocha mentioned earlier).
So, it seems that you have a really brand-new firmware on your phone. Where did you get this firmware respectively your phone?
@bocha: maybe you can ask Samsung if the ROM you described in blog #6 will be available for everyone at a later date (maybe on the web)?! Your ongoing effort keeping us up to date is very much appreciated!

Well Samsung has just released a firmware update for the Singapore released Omnia, it is XG4. I will be updating later but so far those who have updated are reporting scrolling is not present but things like the World Clock and card scanner are included. At least this gives us notice that in the future updates will be available for users themselves and so will always have the option to have the latest firmware.

Hi. I'm new to this sort of stuff. Learning siver Surfer.
I have just bought a Samsung SGH-i900 phone. Looks good but here is the problem. All of the meus/manuals etc etc are in FRENCH. My french is not good. Even the help stuff is in French.
Have I bought a pup? (got it from expansys via Amazon). Is there a solution? What does SGH stand for?
Would appreciate it if anyone could help.
Hi. SGH is okay, that's the official name of Samsung i900.
About the French language: in a Windows Mobile device you cannot change the language as easy as in a normal phone. You should refresh the ROM, and upload an English one. If you have no experience, do not try it yourself, maybe you should ask some help from a local Samsung Mobile retailer.

OK - thanks for the speedy reply.
Where would they get the stuff from. Should I take teh disks that came with it or will they be able to download it from the internet?
Dave
PS - love the reviews - best introduction to the phone that I have come across.
Ask them. A ROM refresh needs a new ROM version, Samsung is not that type of company which let the ROM versions aviable online.
If you don not have a guarantee paper, probably you won't get free support...
PS: thank

Thanks for all of that Bog. Too hard for me - I'm sending it back to expansys. Don't know how many French ones thay have sold in the UK.
In the mean time I'll study your blogs to see what it will be like when the propper one turna up. Dave
If you buy it from an official Samsung store... it should be okay

This message is probably too late to help Dave Smith. A few days ago, I upgraded my Omnia i900 ROM from DXHH1 to DXHJ1. So far the performance is much better. It doesn't hang up as often as the HH1. It also improved battery life a bit like about 15% - not much but better than nothing in my opinion. GPS satellites connection is much quicker - given i live in Washington State and we don't get much clear sky this time of the year. Storage and Program memory remains the same. Touch player still missing Alphabet search option so that was a minor set back. I hope they will add that option for next upgrade.
-- Overall a very stable and best performance ROM.

Bog - No problem. Figured I should share the good stuffs.
Also, I've played with the T-mobile UK Omnia ROM - BOHH5 - (by accident). It actually have Omnia perform much better. Program memory increased to 98mb, Program storage memory increased to 92mb (not much to really make any big differences). Also, when selection in Main Menu it loaded noticeably faster than DXHJ1. Also, they removed the second page in Main Menu consisted of Mobile Office Softwares (this might be the reason why it loaded faster). Omnia Widget has an extra feature called - Walk n Web - which allows user to save 3 their favorite sites for quick access. The bad thing about this version is the lack of SETTINGS. They also removed a few extra settings that the DXHJ1 has like - band selecting, browser connection, ect. Don't know much about battery life or other performance since I installed it by accident while trying to get US T-mobile 3G to work (which turned out I have to buy a T-mobile registered phone to get on their network
).
